Condition

Plantar fasciitis.

Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain, often related to irritation where the plantar fascia attaches near the heel.

What patients notice

Pain is often worst with the first steps in the morning, after sitting, or after long periods of standing or running. Footwear, calf tightness, training changes, and foot mechanics can contribute.

Sports medicine evaluation can confirm the diagnosis and rule out other causes such as stress fracture or nerve irritation.

How it is treated

Treatment often includes calf and plantar fascia stretching, foot and ankle strengthening, footwear changes, taping, night splints, or orthotic support.

Persistent cases may benefit from imaging, guided procedures, or a discussion of percutaneous tenotomy depending on the tissue findings.
