Condition
Stress fractures.
Stress fractures are bone stress injuries that develop when repetitive load exceeds the body’s ability to recover and remodel bone.
What patients notice
Pain often starts gradually with running, jumping, marching, or increased training volume. It may improve with rest at first, then progress to pain with daily walking or at rest.
Early diagnosis matters because some locations are higher risk and need more protection. Evaluation may include imaging, nutrition and menstrual history when relevant, footwear review, and training-load assessment.
How it is treated
Treatment depends on the bone involved and the severity of injury. Some stress injuries need rest from impact, a boot, crutches, or more urgent referral.
Dr. Jones can also review training load, nutrition, vitamin D, menstrual health when relevant, and return-to-running progression.
