Tenotomy education

Calcific tendonitis.

Calcific tendonitis occurs when calcium deposits develop within a tendon, most commonly around the shoulder.

What patients notice

Pain may range from mild aching to severe shoulder pain, especially with reaching, lifting, or sleeping. Some episodes can feel sudden and intense when the deposit becomes irritated.

How it is treated

Treatment may include activity modification, anti-inflammatory strategies when appropriate, physical therapy, ultrasound-guided procedures, or referral if surgical care is needed.

When tenotomy may be discussed

For selected chronic tendon problems, Dr. Jones can evaluate whether ultrasound-guided treatment options may help address painful tendon tissue or calcium-related irritation.

When to schedule

Schedule a visit if shoulder pain is severe, recurring, limiting motion, or not improving with initial care.
