Common causes
Patients often notice joint pain in the knee, hip, shoulder, ankle, elbow, or wrist. Symptoms may be related to arthritis, sprains, tendon irritation near the joint, bursitis, prior injury, or changes in training volume.
How it is evaluated
A sports medicine evaluation looks at the painful joint, nearby muscles and tendons, range of motion, strength, gait or sport mechanics, and whether imaging or ultrasound-guided assessment may help clarify the diagnosis.
Treatment options
- Activity modification and a clear return-to-activity plan
- Physical therapy or guided home exercises
- Medication recommendations when appropriate
- Ultrasound-guided injections, PRP, or other non-operative options when indicated
When to schedule
Schedule a visit if pain is persistent, swelling is present, motion is limited, symptoms are affecting activity, or you are unsure whether it is safe to keep exercising.
