PRP education

PRP for ligament strains.

Ligament strains and sprains can cause pain, swelling, instability, and difficulty returning to sport or daily activity.

How PRP may help

PRP is sometimes discussed for selected ligament injuries, but the decision depends heavily on the ligament involved, severity, healing timeline, imaging findings, and whether bracing or surgery is needed.

Evidence note

Clinical evidence for PRP in ligament injuries is less established than for knee osteoarthritis and some tendinopathies. A systematic review of ligament-injury basic science noted ongoing interest but protocol and evidence limitations. Murray et al., 2022

When to schedule

Schedule if a sprain causes swelling, instability, difficulty bearing weight, or uncertainty about return to sport.
