Helping patients understand their options before surgery.
Non-operative orthopedics is care for bone, joint, muscle, tendon, and ligament problems that does not begin with surgery. For many patients in Spring and The Woodlands, the most important first step is understanding what is causing pain and which conservative options are reasonable. Amy Jones, M.D. is board-certified in family medicine and fellowship-trained in primary care sports medicine, giving her the background to evaluate orthopedic concerns while keeping the patient's full health, activity level, and goals in view.
Patients may schedule for knee pain, shoulder pain, ankle sprains, muscle strains, elbow tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, hip pain, arthritis, overuse injuries, return-to-play concerns, and chronic tendon pain. Some patients are hoping to avoid surgery. Others simply want to know whether their symptoms are safe to manage conservatively or whether imaging or referral is needed. Dr. Jones can help patients sort through that decision in a structured way.
The office is located at 25305 Interstate 45 in Spring, convenient for The Woodlands, Shenandoah, Oak Ridge North, Rayford Road, and surrounding North Houston communities. Care may include physical exam, activity review, training-load discussion, medication guidance, bracing, splinting, casting, physical therapy recommendations, home exercise planning, imaging when appropriate, and ultrasound-guided diagnostics or procedures.
Conditions and treatments commonly considered.
Many orthopedic problems improve with time and the right plan, but “rest and hope” is often not enough. Tendons may need progressive strengthening. Arthritis may need activity modification, strength work, weight management, injections, or joint-protection strategies. Sprains and strains may need bracing, a staged return, or evaluation for more significant injury. For select chronic tendon problems or joint arthritis, Dr. Jones may discuss regenerative or minimally invasive options such as platelet-rich plasma therapy or percutaneous tenotomy.
Non-operative does not mean avoiding surgery at all costs. It means starting with the least invasive effective strategy and recognizing when a surgical opinion is appropriate. Red flags such as major deformity, inability to bear weight after trauma, rapidly worsening neurologic symptoms, severe weakness, suspected fracture, or uncontrolled pain should be evaluated urgently. Persistent pain, recurrent injuries, or symptoms that limit activity are good reasons to schedule a non-emergency evaluation.
For patients who want to stay active, non-operative orthopedic care can be especially helpful because the plan can be built around function. The question is not only “What does the image show?” It is also “What can the patient do now, what should they avoid, and how do we help them return safely?” Dr. Jones uses that framework to help patients move forward with more clarity.

Frequently asked questions
What is non-operative orthopedics?
Non-operative orthopedics focuses on evaluating and treating bone, joint, muscle, tendon, and ligament problems without surgery when conservative care is appropriate.
What problems can start with non-operative care?
Many sprains, strains, overuse injuries, tendon problems, arthritis symptoms, shoulder pain, knee pain, elbow pain, plantar fasciitis, and activity-related injuries can begin with non-operative evaluation.
When is surgery considered?
Surgery may be considered when symptoms, exam findings, imaging, or functional limitations suggest conservative care is unlikely to be enough. Dr. Jones can help patients understand when referral makes sense.
